ORLANDO-- (BUSINESS WIRE)-- December 9, 1998 -- Mobile Area Networks, Inc., of Heathrow, Florida, recently completed installation of a super-high-speed, wireless Internet access system in one of Orlando's premier business-class hotels: The Sheraton Orlando North in Maitland. Thanks to the mobiLAN® system, the hotel's business-traveling guests can quickly connect to the Internet and Local Area Networks (LANs) from their laptop computers--anywhere in and surrounding the hotel. No telephone lines, modems or cables are needed.

Guests can send e-mail from poolside, search the Web from their rooms or the lobby, wirelessly print documents to the hotel's printer, and connect with other guests via a wireless network.

"The system definitely opens up a big sales door for us," said Paul Hart, the Sheraton's general sales manager. "It gives us a big advantage in attracting business travelers. Now we can accommodate an unlimited number of computer users without installing additional wires or tying up any of the hotel's telephone lines."

To use the system, guests insert a credit-card-size PC card into their laptop computers. The PC card antennae exchange signals with transceivers hidden throughout the building. A major benefit of mobiLAN® is its speed: It transmits data at T-1 speed--an astonishing 1.5 million bits per second. A file that takes 6 hours to download with a dial-up modem takes approximately 8 minutes with mobiLAN®.

As one "road warrior" said, "This is the holy grail of cyberspace..'

Mobile Area Networks, Inc., (http://www.mobilan.com) is the first to offer high-speed wireless Internet, LAN and selected Intranet access for laptops. The company creates a bridge to the future for hotels, convention centers, office buildings, airports, universities and other locations where computer users need fast, reliable and mobile connectivity.
