ORLANDO: Mobile Area Networks, Inc. is showing it's hotel Internet solutions this week while sharing booth space with Symbol Technologies Inc.,  at the HITEC '99 show for the hospitality industry in Atlanta, Georgia. Symbol Technologies, is the billion dollar plus maker of wireless networking and bar code products, and is introducing devices that will allow total solutions for hotels including automated guest check-in and accounting.  The two companies have entered into a strategic partnership agreement for Mobile Area Networks with it's mobiLAN® network to be the internet service partner, and Symbol Technologies will be the exclusive wireless hardware vendor as well as the installation and service network partner.

"With the resources of our combined companies we can quickly provide T-1 speed wireless internet into all meeting and guest rooms for chains of hotels or other multiple properties, and it will be easier to manage the entire network with the Symbol partnership providing approximately 900 employees nationwide" states George Wimbish, CEO of Mobile Area Networks.

This partnership is a natural fit because both companies have targeted the same market and each has developed devices or systems that are in demand in the hotel industry.

"With the Symbol SPT 1740 , a rugged, pocketable computer and the Comtec Portable Encoder Printer,  integrated into a property management software, a guest can shorten the hotel check-in process", according to John Harker, Symbol Technologies Director of Hospitality and Gaming.  No more waiting in line at the front desk, because check-in and check-out will be automated, and on-line via the mobiLAN® high speed wireless Internet system, which is based on Symbol's Spectrum 24 wireless LAN at the property.  Guests can also take advantage of very high-speed Internet and email services throughout the properties.  Short email messages, paging, or voice-over the Internet can be accessed by the palm sized wireless devices.  Laptop computers can access the same wireless system for real-time work.
